My 190E temp gauge really heats up when I am in traffic. The gauge starts at around 80 and proceeds to the "hash" mark below 120. This is a new auto for me, and I am concerned that the fan does not work, or maybe a thermastat? Or worst.... Please help !!!!!
Thanks In Advance

Stop driving it!
The first thing is to verify that the fan kicks in if at all. If you open the hood when the temp gauge is high up and the fan isn't spinning at a good clip then you are looking at either a fan switch or thermo clutch problem. The fan switch would be my guess and it's cheaper.
If it is spinning then get the thermostat replaced pronto!
If everything above checks out and there are no leaks in the system then have your radiator flushed or replaced.
Bottom line is get this fixed quick because if that gauge redlines your going to need good credit.

The fans should come on audibly at temps over 105. If not, get to a shop. This engine will not last if overheated.

Benzmac,
Back to this over-heating thing, I am still a little concerned/confused. Ever since I have my car, the temp always read between 95F-100F. Even in winter. I posted a couple questions before, and most advise I got was to try using Water Wetter and had the fan checked. My fan was indeed broken, and it was fixed. I put Water Wetter in my car as advised. My temp still reads 95-100. No change. Called the dealer, and they said its normal operating temp. However, my 98 ML320 always reads 80F. My friend's C280 reads 80F. Is there a range of "normal/acceptable" operating temp? If you think mine is also running too high, what should I do next? Mine is 95 R129. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
