I have an intermittent vacuum leak and suspect something in the system involved with transmission vacuum regulation. The leak manifests itself as slow engine shut-off and weak door lock operation--both these systems are solid (replaced elements recently)and work fine if I disconnect and plug the line going to the assembly on top of the valve cover. The vacuum modulator on the transmission holds steady vacuum when tested. I know there are three 3-way switches under the plastic cover and presume it could be one of these? Possibly could be the white plastic mechanism on the back of the injection pump? Thanks for any suggestions.

There are lots of potential components that can leak. Yes, the white switches on top of the valve cover can leak, but I doubt they could cause enough of a leak. You need to eliminate one system at a time, whether it is the transmission vacuum system, the EGR circuit, or back to the door lock system. Don't overlook the vacuum check valves, 'y' connectors, vacuum reservoir or even the AC system could have a major leak.

The most common thing that I see on these is the small valve that is on top of the vacuum pump. It will come apart and clog the port.
Good luck. ------------------ Benzmac: 1981 280GE SWB 1987 16V ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
