I have a 1993 500SEL and I'd like to remove the yellow lenses inside the fog lights. I did this on my 124 300E and it was pretty straightforward but after a quick look at the 500SEL's headlight assembly, I'm not as sure. Basically I guess I need to know how to take the glass lens off, from there removing the yellow lens should be easy. Anyone want to tackle this one?? Thanks...

Chris,
I too am considering removing the yellow lenses from my 300e foglights. How did you go about it? Is it straightforward and easy enough so that I dont end up breaking/cracking anything? I am just considered about cracking the headlight doors of those plastic lenses. Also, what kind of bulbs are you running in the fog lights. I am using US spec assemblies. Thanks. Ben |

well, I successfully removed the filters on my 140
The 124 removal is somewhat similar...first you have to remove the headlight wipers, then the retaning plate/trim strip...the screws/nuts are fairly easy to find. Then you have to CAREFULLY pull up the retaining clips on the headlight lenses themselves in order to loosen the lense. Also, make sure you have removed the turn signals to assure clearance. I don't quite remember, but there may be a screw or two securing the lens to the headlamp assembly, the key is NOT to force anything. Once you have the lens off, just pull back the clips securing the yellow filter and pull it off. With my 124, which is a 1990, the filters were brittle so wear gloves as it can break in your hand. Good luck, as the results are worth it! Even the stock h3 bulbs look a lot better and brighter...upgrading to some PIAA or Solaris bulbs should be even better ------------------ Chris Singh 1983 300D 1990 300E Black Pearl Monotone w/ chrome AMG monoblock II 17", custom multimedia system 1993 500SEL brilliant silver w/ AMG monoblock II 19" http://benz.mp3car.com http://stormworks.max3d.com |

W140 Headlamp Lens Replacement?
On a W140 (1998), can you just replace the glass headlamp lens?
How much do these cost? I have a rock crack in one. Is the slightly yellow appearance the lens or something behind the glass? If the glass lens, then I am in trouble, I will need two!!! Tks BOBB

flipside, edict
i'd like to buy those yellow glass covers from you guys, if they don't break. they will 'pull' off, go slow they are somewhat fragile. you'll have to remove the lense to access them.be very careful of the 4 plastic tabs that hold the lense on the assembly. they can break easily. i have a pair of h3 insert pieces with the bulb shields on it, if you guys would want them. please email if you would part with the yellow covers, mckeige@netscape.net i recently did surgery on my fog lights to put the yellow covers on my bosch euros. thanks
