Move cell phone for cupholders - W140

I have the factory installed portable cell phone in the console of my 95 S320 W140. I use the phone all the time, but never as a portable (ie. I never remove it from the car) - always use the voice dial and handsfree. I would like to re-locate the handset somewhere else (it doesn't need to be accessible), and install cup holders in the console where it used to be.

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions? It's not clear how to remove the charger/base from the console, or get at the wiring.

Any suggestions on where to get cupholders for the console?

Thanks much,

D,

Maybe you can hit two birds with one stone. Get an armrest console with BOTH the phone and cupholders. The attached image is from a 1999 S320V. I gotta believe that the center console from this '99 will fit your '95.

That would be ideal. Any thoughts on where to obtain the necessary bits?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm,

Maybe you could get a part number from your dealer and then see if you can get one online here.

Hmm. That part number is 140-970-40-31 and the dealer NET PRICE is (are you sitting down?) $1000. Wholesale is $1340 and retail is $1670. I think that your best bet is a used one from pgauto.com or silverstarrecycling.com :(

I did that exact retro-fit on a 1996. I used a 1999 S600 unit that
was stitched leather and the parts cost over $2300.
The install was flawless however and worked fine.
Good luck with the parts.

Yikes! I was hoping for a much-much cheaper solution.... already put lots of $$$ into the car, don't need to make stuff up to spend that kind of money.
