Upon performing the FSS B at 27k miles myself I noticed two what I belive are transmission oil leaks. I setup an appointment with the dealer who has a 3 week wait and could someone give me some advice meanwhile on if this should be covered by mercedes warranty, which I believe it defenitely should, and how to describe it to the dealer. The first one I notice when I took the plastic engine undertray off to loosen the oil drain plug. The tray was slightly wet with rather fresh oil on the side opposite the oil drain plug (at the drivers side of the tray). I tried reaching up and it seems that the narrow pipes, maybe ATF cooler lines?, is what is leaking? The second is back by the ATF. It is at the "flat" portion and one side of the edges seem to be dark with oil. Thanks for all the help.

The cooler hoses have been know to leak and ANY leak will be covered under warranty. Pay close attention to them now!! and get them fixed while you can.

How would you check the transfluid level? I also own a 98 E320 and the owners manual states that the transmission is sealed and the trans fluid never requires changing. I noticed that Mercedes Shop sells a transmission filter for a 98 E320. Any suggestions on how to check the trans fluid level and if it is recommended to ever change the trans fluid and filter.

I just had in my 98 Diesel for a new oil pump,,and at the ssame time I let them know of a shifting problem I was having when cold and coming to a stop, the tranny did not shift into 1st gear fast enough.

They found a tranny leak at one of the plugs, and fixed it, although the car had never dripped anything on the ground.

This might have been a kind of false story also, as with the full underpad on the car, you might never see a leak anyways.

So they fixed the leak, but guess what?.... it still does not shift into 1st gear fast enough.......
