1987 190e
Please help! I gave our son my old & beloved 1987 190E, 2.3 MB for a present after he made the Who's Who in H.S. Students, and.... I went to open the hood to show him how to check all fluids, and the cable that goes from the inside of the car to the hood release broke. So now we can't open the hood at all!! Please help!!! He wants to go to a graduation party this Friday night with his "new" MB and it needs an oil change, and his father won't let him go unless the car has been serviced.

I'm sorry I can't help ; but you must let us know the secret when you find it! I see so many w/ extra "cob job" wires and such sticking out of the grill!! They must have had the same problem!

A lot is going to depend on where the cable broke. If it is still attached to the hood latch (visible on the driver's side the grill, just to the right of the center chrome strip, you can fish out the cable and give it a yank to release the catch. If the cable broke off at the latch, then I think the only way to access the latch is to break the plastic grill, which is pretty cheap, to access the latch mechanism.
