93 190E hard to start
 

Yesterday I replaced the thermastat cover and thermastat. I also drained and replaced water and antifreeze. The problem is When I finished filling with water and tried to start the car.......it took about 15 to 20 seconds to start and when it did start it idled very slowly for a few seconds and then it seemed ok. I thought maybe I got water on something i shouldn'd have so I let it run for a while. After shutting it off I tried to start again right away and it started right away like normal. This morning it took 20 or 30 seconds of cranking to start. Again after running for a while I shut it off and started right away and it starts right up. So bottom line ..when first starting it or after it sits for a few minutes not running it takes 20 seconds of cranking to start but if you turn it off and start it right away ...it starts right up. Any ideas?

I would first check to make sure all vacuum hoses are good. Then I would check to make sure that the cold start valve works. Then, the OVP relay causes alot of weird start/idle problems.

Where is the ovp on the 190? How do you test the cold start valve

In case anyone else has this problem here's how I fixed it! The cold start valve was leaking gas into to intake so it took 15 seconds of cranking to clear the flooding. I repaced the cold start valve and it was FIXED!

Where's the Cold start valve, and how did you know that it was leaking fuel? I really need to check mine, as mine is rather hard to start as well. Thanks for any help

Its located under the air breather. I didn't know for sure it was leaking but a mechanic told me if it was hard to start after you let it sit for a few minutes but if you leave it all night it was easier to start........the cold start valve was leaking and causing the motor to flood. After it sits all night the gas evaporates and thats why it's easier to start in the morning. When I pulled the cold start valve out, gas was dripping out of it. It's not supposed to drip.
