96 C280 2 Rubber Lines Under Intake Manifold?

Hi,

There are two rubber lines approx 1 inch diameter (about the size of heater hoses) that are below the intake mainfold that appear to have hardened. They have hose clips on each end instead of screw type hose clamps and run parallel to one another.

Are these special molded coolant hoses or other hoses that are made of harder rubber or is this hardening an indication that they need replacement. None of the other hoses in the engine compartment have devitalized in this manner.

Thanks

Those are crankcase breather hoses, make sure to get OE replacements. ALSO be careful when removing as the plastic manifold can come apart if you pull on them too hard. I always cut the old hoses with razor blade so that they will come off easy.

Thanks,

That sure explains the devitalization of the rubber. Just ordered new hoses.

The caveat on removing the hoses is especially appreciated.

Are there any other components to the breather system that need regular maintenance attention such as the flame traps on the the Rolls Royce. Those flame traps need regular removal and cleaning.

Many Thanks
