My Apologies

If I have ever made STATEMENTS that your problem is most certainly a particular part and that part should be replaced, without suggesting a method of testing that part or troubleshooting the subsystem, I apologize.

I try to offer suggestions for TESTING something before replacing it. Other times I may suggest that a common cause of a particular problem might be.

I may have violated the above statement in the past when it is something that I have seen multiple times.

What makes me post this is that I have seen some posts where it was STATED that a particular part should be replaced because that was the cause of those symptoms when that person experienced the same problem. If this statement is coming from one of the pros it is worth listening to, otherwise beware.

There are some things that I get pretty fixated on such as clogged underhood drains on 123 cars causing water in the rear floorboard. If I have made flat statements that clogged drains are the only thing that could cause this I apologize. There are other things that can cause this, I am merely trying to point out that it is simple to clear the drains and there is a HUGE liklihood that this is the problem.

It really wears me out to read postings where someone insists that a particular part should be changed without testing, checking, inspecting or evaluating before blindly replacing a part. Unfortunately there are times when shotgun troubleshooting is necessary, but to insist on replacing a particular part because that is what caused the problem for them is a little over the top IMHO.

There are times when enough troubleshooting information is given to allow the experienced pros to say for sure where the problem lies. There are many other times when the problem could be a wide variety of pieces in the particular subsystem being repaired.

SOOoooo...... if I have ever done this before I apologize. I hope others will refrain from this practice along with me.

Have a nice day,

Larry - I've never read anything you've posted that has led me to believe you should apologize. You offer sound advice and your opinion, which is what this forum is for.

What prompted this? Just curious...and keep that advice coming...

Now changing his oil hot and often,
Chris

Larry, as you probably realize, I am going thru an issue with my 600sel.

As a big boy, like the rest of the membership, when I have an issue, I relate, to the best of my ability, the perceived symptoms that are present and hope that someone like yourself will offer up some potential suggestions based on their experience.

I know that those suggestions are exactly that, based only on the information and explanation that I have provided.

As SPOCK outlined previously, these suggestions are somewhere else to look for a potential solution to the problem at hand. These suggestions are potential solutions that may not have occured to a neophyte like myself.

It is unreasonable for an individual to expect 100% diagnosis from a distance by someone who does not have anything tangible to work with, other than the requesting party's perception and description of the problem.

Please keep the info and suggestions flowing...
Long live Delo..

Larry - You're one of the major reasons I frequent this site and know so much about my cars. Please keep speaking up (to help us amateurs).

Larry, you're actually one of the few members of this site that I've actually taken the time to meet.

You may find this hard to believe, but I enjoy your posts and learn so much from them, that I've actually gone back and read every post you've made.

Especially the oil change threads, "change it hot and often".

Larry your contributions are pearls of wisdom, don't ever think otherwise. I admire the way you find the time to post, often at length. I barely seem to have time daily just to keep updated. You sir, are a true professional and have nothing to apologise for ! My heartfelt thanks . . .

Larry, you have nothing to apologize for. At the end of the day, if I'm doing it myself, it's up to me to determine whether someone's advice or recommendation is valid. Yours has always been focused, helpful and, most of all, educational. There are several systems I understand a little better having read what you have to say. It pains me that you might have any misgivings about your contributions. Thank you again for all your help.
