Leaking hydraulic pump on my SL

The hydraulic unit that powers my soft top has begun to leak. Has anyone experienced this before? I just called the dealer and they told me $2600.00 to replace it. HELP!!!

do it yourself and save

hello

before i would pay the dealer that kind of money i would look at doing it myself.

look up a hydraulic hose repair house who can get the rubber parts and then find out what seals and orings you're going to need. remember you'll need orings and seals out of a Buna-N material which is suitable for hydrocarbons and up to 180 degrees F. [ they may already be using a viton seals which is even better due to it's higher temp limits.]

of course there is the junk yard which if you are lucky might have an unit that will fit.

good luck hope you can save the 2600$

Could you be a little more specific on your year vehicle and also
where the top operating unit is leaking from?
Reservoir, lines, valve block, solenoids?
where does the oil appear?
You may need to have an o-ring replaced, lines torqued, or a new unit installed.

Ok I have some more details. I seems to leak most right after the system is in use. It is leaking out of what appears to be a drain hole on the underside of the car in the back left corner. I have examined the pump/unit itself and it appears to be fine.

If the hydraulic unit is dry, you will need to have the system inspected to see what is the culprit. Possibly a latch or lock,
or one of the lifting rams or lines. The system is fairly complicated but, you may end up only needing a $100 line or ram.
The dealer should be able to diagnose it fairly quickly.
It takes less than 3 Hrs to expose the whole system.
good luck

Is it a very complicated process. I'm pretty handy...tune ups, oil changes, window regulators, etc.......is it something I should have a professional do?
