I was cleaning up my rear window in my W124 and noticed a bunch of bugs and haze which has built up between the third brake light and the window. It's driving me crazy that I can't get in there and clean it up.

Can someone give me a step by step to remove the third brake light?

If it is the same as my 420 sel,it is in three parts.1.Remove back part by CAREFULLY prying the tabs on each side out.This is the light bulb housing.2.You will see two black pieces of plastic spring loaded parts that hold the reflector housing up against the rear window.Hold housing with both hands applying lite preasure down on each spring loaded part and CAREFULLY pull the housing streight back away from back window. NOTE: if you break the black parts, you are scr------d.You will have to buy the intire assy. Don't ask me how i know. All of the plastic parts on these old cars are very brittle.

I really appreciate the quick response! As soon as I finished reading it I went out the the garage and did exactly as described.

I'm happy to say no more bugs or grime, although I did note that the red plastic is starting to show signs of melting.

I guess I'll put that on the list for future replacement.
