96 C280 Head Gasket
 

Hi,

I will soon have to address the head gasket problem due to external oil leak. What is the latest thinking on this problem?

Has there been any success with 15 to 20 degree retorque of cylinder head bolts?

If I have to replace the head gasket what is the best brand to use?

I am sure of one thing: tightening the head bolts will absolutely not help.

The main reason I am sure of this is that the leak isn't coming between the gasket and the head or the block. Retorquing doesn't help even when it is such. The leak at the front on the 104 motor comes from the compliant seal under the cam housing hardening and not staying with the head gasket as it recedes under the head.

Does the cam housing seal require pulling the head? If it does, is that gasket included with the set when you get the head gaskets.
