??s about soft top on '93 300 CE CV

Hi everyone,
I've got a couple of questions about the soft top (operating it, cleaning it and cleaning around it etc.) on my 1993 300Ce convertible (A124). Unfortunately, I don't have an owner's manual (I've ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet).

My service guy told me that I should NEVER interrupt the top operation when it's going up or down. However, how do I clean / vacuum out the small 'trunk' area where the top is stored if I can't stop the thing in the middle? What about treating the rubber gaskets?

Any help would be appreciated. How about you MBFRAU? What do you do?

THANKS!

Stopping the top operation during operation won't cause any problems. In fact it's absolutely necessary during diagnosis/maintenance. How else could latches be lubed/adjusted? If the top is left in any position between opened/closed it will eventually "time out" and gravity will allow it to move in whatever direction is easiest, but this shouldn't have any adverse effect on subsequent operation. As far as cleaning is concerned you've got it easy. Clean the rear glass in the normal manner. The 107's and 129's were the tough ones, due to the plastic rear window. I've used a product called Rubber Care for the seals and weather-stripping for several years with no problems. The canvas should clean up easily with mild soap and a soft sponge. If you have any stubborn stains to remove perhaps a post in the Detailing Forum will help.
