ANYBODY KNOW WHERE I CAN GET INFO ON A 300E TO 500E CONVERSION?

Why not just buy a 500E anyway. If you've got the $$$ to convert a 300E to a 500E (Different body style, etc.) then you probably could afford it.

Not a conversion for the faint of heart...I own both types of W124 and they could be no more different. There's a 66 page MBZ publication that outlines the differences; we're talking: engine, tranny, rear diff, entire suspension (it even has an extra brace between the front lower control arms), wheels, tires, brakes, all four fenders, both bumpers, entire lower body; I could go on.

Seriously, if you've got the wherewithal to potentially upgrade a 300E, why not pop for a 500E? If you can't get there, a 400E/E420 is a helluva car, and with lower gears would be scary fast.

Just my humble opinion...best of luck with your decision

malbosia,

Have you ever built a car from the ground up? That's what you're talking about here. If you've ever done it, and you still want to do it again, then this will probably be more satisfying to you than purchasing a 500E. There are a few project oriented people who thrive on such projects.

However, if you've never done it, I wouldn't recommend it. It will take over your life. It's more work and time involved than you could ever imagine. Make no mistake about it, what you're talking about doing is very close to building a car from the ground up.

If you are one of those people who takes on such massive projects AND finishes them, my hat's off to you. You are one of the very few. I did it once AND finished it. I may do it again in my lifetime, but it won't be while I'm raising a family and earning a living. Approach this with an EXTREME amount of thought.

Best of Luck,
