Climate control question 124 300E
Greetings,
The climate control in my '91 300E isn't working properly. I removed the glove box and tested the lines at the manifold as suggested by others. I found that #1,4,6&7 won't hold vacuum. My question is, can anyone identify which actuators these relate to? I plan on replacing the 4 that are hard to access, but I want to be sure if the other two need replacing. Thanks |
According to the printout I have in my binder, the vacuum outlets correspond as follows:
y1 - fresh/recirc (small lift) y2 - fresh/recirc (large lift) y3 - footwell y4 - center nozzle y5 - defroster (large lift) y6 - diverter y7 - defroster (small lift) According to the page, it is for vehicles after 09/86, but I didn't print out the other pages of the manual entry, and don't know if they are different for later vehicles. Only two of the vacuum pods are easily accessible, I think. If you're going to R&R the dash to get at the other ones, you should probably do them all at once. -anthony |
Thanks Anthony!
You are also correct about there being two that are easy, the defroster and footwell. I'll probably do them all except the footwell, it's working now and is easy to get to. Thanks again! |
You're welcome! Let us know how the job goes.. i've got a couple bad pods that I've been putting off for months (the center and diverter ones), but now that the temperatures are back in the 90s, I'm really starting to miss those center vents.

If you can see but not necessarily reach the center vent actuator, either from the glove box or through the registers, maybe you can force it into open mode and hold it there with a wedge or wire. That way you can delay repair even 'til the fall :) Can't think of why you'd need anything but the center vent for the next 4 months.

86 300-E VACCUUM POD REPLACEMENT
Anthony, I see that you live in Folsom and live in Rocklin, which makes us almost neighbors....Have you ever done the pod replacement before ???...I have an 86 300E and althought I have not pulled the glove box and vaccuum tested the 7tier manifold..I'm sure I have several if not all to replace...No center vent on a/c....no footwell on anything...etc.....Now that the heat has hit the Sacramento Valley I'm thinking about waiting til the fall before I dive in to take the dash apart...I have other vehicles to use so I'm allowing myself a week to do ALL the pods....If you do yours sooner let me know how it went and what type of pit falls to look out for.....And of course if you need someone to hold the flashlight or beer while your under the dash, e-mail me...
Thanks Hank.... |
