Thumbs down Child lock on M-class retrofitting

Is it possible to retrofit child lock to rear passenger doors on a M class? I was surprised to found that MB skipped such a basic features on a premium SUV. Such a feature should be a must. My 4 year old opened the door himself and ran to the street. That scared me to death. The auto lock function is not good enough when the child can unbuckle himself and pull up the lock pin.

No Mercedes has had that feature. Since our Japanese cars have all had it, I asked an MB engineer that was in town for the W211 launch about it.

"In Germany, we teach our children to stay in the car."

That's their answer like it or not...
