I have a '92 300E. It had the old, original lights in it. I replaced them with the European headlights. my current wipers will not work with the Euro lights. Where can I but some wipers that will work with the Euro lights?

You think? Is there anyway I could find out for sure? My local MB dealer is a real pain to deal with and they are never any help, unless I know the part number of what I need

When I replaced the headlights on my '86 300E with Euro versions, I also made a simple bracket for the old wiper motor. This allows you to attach the old motor to the headlight assembly (as with the USA version).
The old wipers work perfectly fine with the Euro lights. However, the Euro wiper arms/blades are longer, enabling them to clean the fog lamps as well. Although I haven't yet tried it, one could probably use the Euro arms/blades on the the USA motors. Can anyone verify that? |

Late 93(94 model year) - 95 W124 E-Class front headlight wipers should fit with Europ Spec Headlights as that those year of W124 has "Europ-Spec type" headlight, with the exception of orange reflector on the side markers(or front turn signal lenses, if you prefer)......

Hi Barrie,
Where did you buy your euro lights from - I'm looking to pay in Canadian $$... Thanks, Nick |

JCE:
In this case, a description will be more helpful than a drawing (which I don't have anyway). The 'bracket' is simply an L-shaped piece of aluminum plate that you attach to the underside of the light ass'y to hold the motor shaft (same as old version). The size and location for your mounting bracket will be evident when you align the motor on the light ass'y. Line-up the motor for an appropriate sweep and mark the location. A piece of aluminum (approx .07") with one bend makes you the bracket; attach with a few metal screws. All of this can be done on your workbench. If you optimize the wiper location for the best sweep area you'll also need to drill a new hole in the facia plate (plug the old one with a plastic grommet). This job will take you a couple of leisurely hours (that's with a beer in one hand). If you need more, let me know. Barrie |

Hi Nick,
The Euro lights are significantly less expensive than the NA version (at least here in Canada). This is even more surprising given their superior reflectors, construction and glass cover (instead of the crappy plastic lens over the fogs that crack with the first stone). You'll love them! I'll e-mail you the info re Cdn sources and prices. Regards, Barrie |

Lose the silly little wipers anyway. Pain in the A-- no matter what you have for lights. The time and money people spend on these things amazes me. Can anyone tell me if they have ever noticed any difference in how the lights are shining and if they are able to notice an improvement after the silly little wipers have done their thing. Unless you are driving through mud holes (and who would do that with a MB sedan)why kill yourself ($$$, frustration, $$$) over these silly pieces of mechanical fluff.

I agree with Jeff, this is a really useless thing to bother with.
Untill now I had so many problem with my wipers on my old 500SEL that I simply disconnected them. Unless someone does rallying in mud in the night with their MBs(must be dumb to do this with an MB) I can't see the reason to spend so many hours on the wipers. ------------------ ------------------------------------- WEB Site : http://www.adamou.dpn.ch A.S.C. 1999 ------------------------------------- |

The Headlight washers/wipers are very effective in parts of the world where we have salt brine on the roads during the winter. No matter how good your headlights are, once they're coated with that stuff (takes about 2 minutes) the headlights are virtually useless. Under these conditions those funny little wipers are a major safety asset!
...Unless you figure a Mercedes shouldn't be driven when there's road salt or mud around. Personally, the thing I find most admirable about the MB (at least the older ones) is their safety and durability under less-than-ideal road conditions. |

Barrie,
Another "me too" reply I'd like info on the Euro headlights...Bekker's seems too expensive, plus they come with orange side markers that will just go up on ebay when I get them because I have clear markers plus the OE orange ones sitting in my garage...I've been looking for a source for just the lights without the markers. Thanks...
