I have a 1991 560SEL that has a slight seepage from the power steering unit. Is there a repair KIT available? or is it better to replace the unit with a rebuilt unit. Is this a DIY repair or does it need special tools to do it right?

I had seepage in the same unit on my 6.9. I used some transmission leak stopper. The leak stopped.

Sorry for jumping in, but in my opinion, voodoo maintenance is not a good practice. Why would someone want to put unknown fluids that claim to plug leaks into a hydraulic system that requires clean fluid? I don't care to buy car unneeded car parts either, but you have a genuine maintenance problem that can only be fixed by replacing components. This goes for transmissions, radiators, hydraulic leveling devices, PS systems, etc.

My advice is to either live with it for a while if it is a minor leak, or replace the leaking seals or components. You have a quality car, why mess up an entire system so save a nickel?

Any professional ASE certified mechaincs (or others) care to share their opinion?
