I have a 1992 140 car(s-class).The light that shows the LCD temperature and the climate "wheel" went out. I have been told there is no bulb replacement for this unit. You have to replace the whole push button unit...which is $1400.00. I find that hard to believe....any ideas? Somehow putting 1400.00 plus labor for a bulb in an 8 year old vehicle seems crazy

I believe it's the only way. Though changing bulbs inside the unit can be done, the labour and time needed to do the work just doesn't worth it, and might as well cost as much as a new, whole unit. The other solution is to find a replacement(used) and/or rebuild(if there are any)unit. May help to cut down the costs.

W140s are very unique cars, and it's a small compromises we, as owners, have to take...

Wrong!! the bulbs can be replaced. There are 2 different brands of pushbuttons, so the bulbs are accesible in different ways. On the Bosch brand they can be removed w/o removing the unit, on the Kammer brand the unit must be removed. Find a dealer or ind repair shop that knows something about the car.

Read post again, the bulbs in the Bosch unit can be replaced w/o removing the pushbutton control unit. .5 hrs of flat rate time MAX. For the record R & R time of A/C control unit is only .8 hrs & .2 hrs to install bulbs. Even at $80 a hour it doesn't add up to $800 for a new unit. Not every body in this business is trying to make a fortune.

Hi there:

I have a w140 automatic climat control (the old 3 turn dial type with 2 big AUTO buttons). I think my light went out on the dial and the temperature display!

I think I can figure out how to get to the unit and access the bulbs from there, but:

1) Can anyone please tell me what bulbs they require? Are they easily accessible/install or are they special ones where I need to solder them in?

2) Will it hurt the computer if I unplug the unit from the car for sometime? i.e., unplug it, take it home and fix it there?

3) Does anyone know how to fix buttons that have gone stubborn!

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
