Lights, Camera....

Here's a silly question:

Would the Dome Light in the picture fit my 85 300SD (126)? I noticed there are two styles of front dome light for the 126 (Early[pre'85] and late ['86-91?]). The one pictured, and the one that I currently have (not functioning - bad 'dial') Its just the light with a dial at the left for selecting permanently on, permanently off, or on when door is open.

I like the idea of the 'delay off' this one provides. Do you think it would fit?

I am not sure but doesn't it have to do with one having a sunroof switch also and the other doesn't?

That looks light the dome light/ moon roof control fior my '94 W124 wagon. Don't know if it will fit your car though.

The fit on the light in question will depend on where your ACC temp sensor is located. Early 126's had the sensor in the dash while later models have the sensor at the dome light. The sensor resides just behind the grille at the bottom of the sun roof switch.

Where is your temp sensor?

Unless I'm very much mistaken my 83 SD has the old style dome light and the fade out feature. Are you sure the delay relay is part of the dome assembly? It might be somewhere else.

Thanks for the replies.

The older SD have delay? That would be great. I dont think mine works anymore becasue of the flakey rotary dial. In fact if I jiggle it enough, it will come on when i open the door, but it goes off as soon as the door is closed. Its operation is intermittant, and to change the setting using the dial takes a delicate touch, I/ve got to get the contacts just right.

My temp sensor is on the dash.

I'll persue the a new 'old style' dome lamp and see if I get the 'delay' work. If the relay is somewhere else, any ideas where I should look for it?
