Why is there no cold defrost?
 

Just wondering why on my 91 and 96 SL500's defrost only comes out at the highest heat setting? It's a bit annoying to have to turn defrost on and off constantly on a hot rainy day. Is there any way to change this?

Well it only seems logical to me defrost...heat, defrost...cold. Definitely sounds more logical defrost...heat.

If instead of getting frost off ones window, one prefers to put cold dehumidified air on ones window to remove fog, then I would suggest using the duct position marked with the up arrow in some cars and a drost sign in others, bi-level in others.

I think the car is operating the way it is designed. When the car fogs up in warm weather, turn on the a/c and the evaporator effectively removes the moisture from the car. In the winter, using the heat dries the air. It will also thaw ice that forms on the outside. I don't think you "need" to run the "defroster" to remove the moisture on a hot rainy day like you describe. In fact, I've noticed in other cars, if you run the cold air defrost on a foggy window on a hot muggy day the windshield fogs up on the outside.

I don't know that there's a way to change the setup.

This is based partly on me not having a MB for a long time. All the other cars I have driven let you pick the temp output of the defrost. But the way MB does it makes much much more sense, Im just not used to it.
