Thanks to all who assisted me on my previous repair. I now have a new concern on my 87 190-e. The emergency flashers work but the turn signals are completely dead. No other lights appear to be out. Help.....

Many times the problem is the hazzard switch, try operating the switch several times. You may have to "tap" on the switch with a little bit of force.

Check fuse 11 the flashers are on fuse 13. The power is switched internally in the emerg flasher switch. I would give the switch a couple of rough cycles off and on. This often will reset the internal switch powering the output term49.
If that doesn't work go to the flasher (combination relay) 13 pin relay at back of fuse box. Check that the 49 terminal is hot when the emerg flashers are off and when they are on. The power when the flashers are off is from fuse# 11. [This message has been edited by Webmaster (edited 03-14-2000).] |

Thank you all very much! My husband hit the emergenct signal switch and they came on (whew !!!). But does the switch on 190-e's often stick like that ? Is this normal ?.
Should I be planning to replace the "assembly" at some point? Any help will be great. |

The big reason for the failure probably is lack of use. Use the flashers a few times switching back and forth. you will probably find that use will make it work fine. Actually you probably will not see a further problem. It is a cheap switch so if there is a doubt replace it.

I am looking to test the flasher switch on my 1985 190e 2.3. I gather from what Stevebfl has posted that regardless of switch position, current is flowing throught the switch. Given that, can some one tell me what pins the current gets directed to in the switch when it is in the off position? I am thinking that if I can jumper the actual switch plug in the console to replicate the switch being off, that will tell me if the switch is indeed bad or if I need to look further along the electrical path.

This is an addition to my previous post. Pin 30 is always hot on my switch plug. From what I can tell on the schematic, it looks like pin 49 needs to be powered because that feeds the combo-relay. So my question is can I jumper 30 to 49 to test the turn signals, thus either proving the switch is bad or eliminating it from my list of possibilities? Will I damage the combo relay? Should that relay have power ALL the time?

Replaced the hazard switch.. all is fine now.
