Starting Problems~1995 E320

Hello Everyone;

I have a 1995 E320 that has, up until recently, started perfectly. The other day it refused to start but did start when I put it in neutral (automatic transmission). I'm pretty sure it's not the battery. Now why oh why would a car only start in neutral? I haven't taken it to the dealership yet but I guess that will be my next step.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Marilyn

Sounds like a neutral safety switch issue. Since the car only starts in park and neutral due to this switch or its adjustment, its logical that if it fails in park there is still a possibility it could start in neutral. If the shift bushing is missing it will also not make it fully into park.
