Does the chrome piece on top of the rear bumper come off? My chrome is starting to peel and I would like to replace it instead of the entire bumper.

sure does. I had a 560sel a few years back. I think they run about 300-400 new from mercedes. Only problem is that it is kinda of labor intensive (because the clips are probally rusted out).

Maybe useful to find one at junk yard. But problem there is that the junk yard will probally only sell complete bumper(which could cost few hundred dollars)

Do you have a good mb tech. If you do, he should be able to replace it vert easily.
