I am routing new wires in my 400E, and need help with two removals;
First, the rear seat cushion. There are two metal tabs under the seat, and I've tried pushing, pulling and sliding, but without result. Before I use more force, does anyone know how to remove this cushion? Also, I need to get to the bottom of the console switch mounting panel. I have the wood trim off but can't see how to remove the switch mount plate. Thanks! Ray |

The plastic trim that holds down the switches is just a clip fit. No screws.

TXBill,
The 240D's in Texas are getting pretty cheap. I bought an '80 Euro, 4 speed to get an engine. I paid $ 1,200 and it was really too nice to take off the road. It needed a few things, but it would have made someone an economical work car. It's beginning to look like a Thanksgiving turkey on Friday. I got Euro lights off of it, the engine and it had an aftermarket air conditioner just like my other Euro car. Spare parts galore. It sounds like yours will fix up well. Try and keep it on the road if you can. Maybe it'll be the car that gets some kid back and forth to college for a few years, and maybe even do him the favor of turning him into one of us Benz nuts. Good luck and keep in touch. ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 516K miles '88 300E 5 Speed Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

Well, it's the weekend, so I'm back at the project. The rear seat is out. There are plastic clips securing the carpet to floor. Do you know how to remove? Is it non-destuctive, or should I order more clips now?
All the wiring which passes up from the trunk seems to end up under the console, so that's where I'll concentrate my search. Is there a book I should buy on this kind of R&R? Ray |
