I have a 1992 300E that needs new headlight doors because they are so easily cracked. I do not have a workshop manual and am reluctant to just start prying plastic tabs for fear of breaking them. Can anyone tell me how to remove them properly. Thanks

At the top of the lense, there are two plastic clips. Use a thin wide device (1 inch putty knife is good) and gently release these clips. Be aware that if you have those silly wipers, you will have to fold them out of the way. The lense should come out without any great difficulty. Good luck

You have to removed the turn signal to make it easy. There are also two clips on the bottom. Look at the new part, if you have it, and you will be able to figure it out. It is not hard but do it carefully.
Good luck! 86 300e |
As far as I can see, the 2 clips on the bottom are impossible to release unless the whole headlight assembly is removed. Even if the metal trim on the bottom of the headlights is removed, you cannot get to the two bottom clips. It's very frustrating because you can't even see them so you don't know what you're prying.

Did you look from -under- the car? It is not impossible. I did it and, I AM NOT A MECHANIC! I think I had to remove the bottom engine cover (just the front) to get better access. Get a flashlight.
Don't give up, you are almost there! J.Hidalgo 86 300E |
