190e turn signals not working properly

I've searched the archives for some issues regarding turn signals but could not seem to find the same problem. I have a 89 190e 2.6. The problem is the turn signals work fine and hazards work fine with the headlights off. When i turn the headlights on, the right turn signal stays on, sometimes both are on. The turn signals do not blink when this happens and the harzards do not work. Sometimes the lights go out with the headlights on turn signals and hazards work correctly. I've tried rocking the hazard switch back and forth, and check fuses. Both did not solve the problem. When i turn the headlights off, turn signals and hazards work fine. Any ideas??? Is this a bulb problem, flasher relay, hazard switch problem?

it's not a fuse, not the hazard swith and I don't believe it's the flasher relay. I think it's the actual bulb plug that goes into the headlight harness. I tried swapping sides and the left light stayed on instead of the right. Has anyone heard of this part ever going bad....??

Look for oxides from corrosion laying down a conduction path between sockets or pins on both sides of the connector. If there, try cleaning with stiff-bristle brush.

thanks, i'll try that as well. I'm buying new bulb plugs, a cheap $10 will hopefully solve this issue.

Check your bulbs against what is spec for your car. I believe the specs are listed in the back of your owners manual.

Some after market bulbs do not work well with Mercedes. Cars with the bulb failure system on the dash often have problems with incorrect bulbs.

Try checking the tail light clusters. These seem to be subject to moisture and are easy to check.

Keep us posted,

Hazard switch and turn signals

I had the same problem on my 1988 190E 2.3. I took apart the hazard switch, sprayed some electronic parts cleaner, cleaned all surfaces with a Q-tip and reassembled. Works great now. Careful not to break the arms that come off the red button, they are delicate.
