380 brake pedal -rpm rising

On my 85 380 se, 230,000 miles, great shape, runs very well. One of my concerns relates to the brake pedal. While vehicle is in park, pushing on the brake pedal will cause the engine rpm to rise from 600 (normal) to 1000-1100. This happens when the pedal is pumped, not just depressed one time. I also believe that this car suffers from a slight vacuum problem because the vacuum gauge will operate in the red with very mild driving and acceleration. Could the two problems be related? I can live with the less than stellar performance, I don't believe this car was built for speed, but I would like to identify and correct the prm rise from the brake pedal. Thanks ,Rainman.

Yes, you have a vacuum leak, and putting more demand on the vacuum-assist brakes aggravates the problem.
