Cracked oil pan
All things considered, how long would it take to remove and put in a new oil pan for a 1992 3.0L Mercedes 300e?
My wonderful brother hit a parking stop and cracked my oil pan, had to have it towed to the shop. |
It'll cost around $500 to have a new one installed. I opted to drain the oil, (let it drain for 3-4 days) and use some of that metal repair epoxy that looks like a silver Tootsi Roll from Pep Boys. It was still holding after a year when I sold it. Cost: $3.00.

Just curious. If it is aluminum, could it not be welded by a competent person ?

It can be welded, but it will have to be removed from the car. If you are going that far, I'd replace it, at least with a used one.
