I've got an '84 500SEL Euro that I unfortunately don't have all of the service records for. The other day I noticed what looked like a couple of drops getting ready to fall to the pavement from the tranny bell housing. At first I thought maybe it was oil from my lower oil pan, because I need to replace my oil pan gasket, I had just driven the car and I thought perhaps some oil had blown back towards the tranny while in transit. Anyways, I reached under and took the drops with my fingers. As I examined it, it didn't smell like oil, or look like oil. It was a very light yellow.

My question is-Does MB use a non-pink transmission fluid? I could have sworn that I once overheard or read somewhere that this is the case.

Thanks fellas!

What did it feel like? Was it slick? Possible fluids that are a yellowish color.
1. Brake fluid (at least when new)
2. Some power steering fluids
3. Possible condensation dripping from
somewhere.
4. Someone left a can of beer under the
hood and didn't tell you about it

The consistency of the fluid was not oily. Somewhat watery. Hey, I just thought of something. I think the windshield washer solvent in my Benz is a possible answer. I haven't filled up the reservior yet and if I recall the fluid that is in there is not the typical blue.

Whadaya' think?

The windshield washer fluid is sort of orange. Go to the dealer and buy an ampule of concentrate for about $3. If this is the fluid you found it should feel like soapy water.

Good Luck,
