removal of wood trim around AC control of US spec 16v?
 
how do i remove the wood trim around the A/C control on my 16v? some people have told me i have to take the entire control unit out and pop the wood trim out from the back. is this true? mine is in horrible shape and i need to get it off to put an new one on. i have the one with the temperature wheel on the left and the buttons in the center and on the right.

Yes the pushbutton control must be removed as the lock tabs are built-on to it.
