94 C280 locked Ignition

I have a 1994 C280, With no sign of a problem before-hand, when I put the key in the ignition it will not turn -it turns some but not enough to start the vehicle. I tried for a while turning the wheel back and forth -the wheel locking mech. seems to click normally and work okay, the key just seems to 'bind up'.

Question1. Any tricks to get it to start one time so I can get it home?

Question2. How do I remove the ignition tumbler?
