Coolant Bleed Port for C230....?

Does anyone know if there is a coolant bleed port on a 00 C230 engine? I flushed out the coolant and replaced it about a month ago in my wifes car, everything went well, found the block drain no problem, everything seemed ok at the time except for one thing and that is how much coolant I was able to get back in it. It seemed to be far less than what came out. The other symptom is the car is running a bit hotter these days, I have it mixed 50/50 (which was the mixture before I drained it).

By hotter I mean the temp. gauge never went more than a needle width above the 80 mark, now it regularly sees 90.

I know these temps are not "out of limits", but what does concern me is that they are "different" from what they were for 50k miles. So I'm wondering if maybe I have an air block in there or if there is a bleed screw that I overlooked.

Thanks all in advance

I believe I have seen a bleeder by the thermostat housing.
Sorry, the car is not here right now.
If you want to look at your own in the meantime, it is behind the little pull-off plastic cover, in front of the valve cover.
Let me know.
Btw. what's the temp.in Atlanta today ?

Manny, I just went out and looked and there's nothing there except a 2 pole temp. sensor. Any other ideas?

And it's a balmy 89'F and sunny here, I LOVE IT!! It's been very rainy lately so the sun is a welcome site along with the heat.

Did you run the engine after the refill with the radiator cap off for about five to ten minutes to rid of air in the system, then add coolant to the between markings on the overflow tank.
Radiator cap is high enough to act as air release to bleed system.
Make sure rubber gasket is on radiator cap.

also make sure you didn't knock off any of the clasps on the air fliter when working on car.

Also a five minute drive when car is up to normal operating temperature with the air directed to bottom of cabin and heater set on the hottest temp, watch for temp needle to drop.

Right you are. Sorry, I've only had the cover off once since I got the car three months ago, and thought there may have been a bleeder.
Looking at the set-up, with the hose connected to the overflow container, I believe any airlock could correct itself, after 2 or 3 heat/coool cycles.
Promise, I won't send you on a wild goose chase again. ;)

JetForeman 06-20-2003 09:49 PM

I know you wouldn't send me on any wild goose chase, I like to stay open minded to other peoples ideas, especially since I'm the one looking for help!! :D

I agree with your self bleeding theory based upon 2 or 3 heat cycles, so I am doubting there is any air in the system. But I can't explain the higher than "normal" running temps. As you know I don't have an engine running too hot, I merely have a different/higher running temp. that makes no sense.

I removed the thermostat when I was flushing the block out and was careful to install the bleeder port (in the thermostat) exactly where it was when I removed it. So that isn't part of this unexplained higher than normal running temps.

It's got me scratching my head because it makes no sense..on one hand I think it's got an air pocket, but on the other hand, after about a month, it should have bled itself.....Don't you think?

I'm confused, maybe I'm due for a BEER, it's Friday so I'm due for a couple ;)

manny 06-20-2003 09:57 PM

I am running out of ideas on this, but if you were any closer, I'd be over for a couple beers myself.
Pretty sure with enough beer in us we could either solve the puzzle, or it would become completely irrelevent at some point. :D

JetForeman 06-20-2003 10:07 PM

I hate to say it but it probably is irrevelent anyway, I hated to even post this question for fear of wasting brain cells on an issue that isn't out of limits. Oh well, thanks for the time you took on this Manny and if your ever in Atlanta you know where there is plenty of ice cold Beer (my fridge)!!!

Would that be Miller Genuine Draft ?:D

It would be whatever you want, I'm a great host.......

Air pocket burp trick is to park on incline, run to get temp up to open therm, stop engine , wiait 2 min, open res cap and squeeze top radiator hose with both hands [wear gloves ] .
Nice, slow, deep pulses, like toilet plunging..
It works....

JetForeman 06-21-2003 10:26 AM

ok Arthur, I'll try that today and see if it has indigestion.
