HLC hydraulic lifter tool & valve spring compressor

380 SEC 116 V-8

I would like to know if anyone knows where to buy the special tool for checking the hlc 's or hydraulic lifter adjustment, also I would like to buy a valve spring compressor you can use without taking off the head. I tried the local MB dealers (very expensive).

Thanks, Bob

Try looking at this link and then search the Tech Forum for "hlc". ctaylor has posted some interesting places and comments for this tool.

www.preformanceproducts.com has a valve spring compressor in their new cat. on page 69 for $180. Its a bit much for a not very frequently used tool. With the picture and measurements from your cyl head you might be able to make one if you are moderately clever with tools. Its a shame that mercedesshop .com does not have some sort of tool rental system. The prefromance people have some tools to rent like a suspension coil spring compressor but if you want to compress valve springs it is of little use. Then again with a bit of modification......

Finally found the gauge on the other posted link and for my '89 it's $49. It's called a go-no-go gauge. Guess I order it from here at ************************ and save $20.
