Shift Lever won't go into Park.
I put this post in the Diesel section since the car is an '80300SD, but I didn't get any replies that answered my question. So, I will try here.
I just got the 300SD out of the garage for the first time this year and I noticed that the shift lever won't go into park when the engine is running. As soon as the engine is shut off, it goes into park easily. Anybody have an explanation? P E H |

Will it go into neutral, into reverse and then not go into park? Or does it not go into reverse also?

Steve,
The shift lever goes into reverse, neutral, drive, S, and 2, just not PARK when engine is running. As soon as engine stops, it also goes into PARK. P E H |

My question was based on the possibility that the hydraulic reverse lock out was stuck. This happens on the later trans.
The only problem I have had with park on the 722.1 trans is not actually engaging. I think that the lever would go to the park position in those cases just no braking was applied.

Steve,
I tried the shift lever tonight with the engine (runnning) and transmission cold and there was no problem getting transmission to go onto PARK. My wife has the car away until TUE night, so I will try it again then when she gets back and the engine and trans is hot. P E H |
