Have anyone ever noticed that there are three places for which gasoline can travel when filling.
1- Gas Tank (big Circle) 2- Bottom Hole (supposedly to drain water) 3- Horizontal space above big circle where does the gas go if it goes down the big circle? Is there any possibility that if would travel down your rear right wheel well into the trunk or does it go into the fuel tank? DOes anyone know? ------------------ |

CORRECTION:
WHERE DOES THE GAS GO IF IT TRAVELS IN THE HORIZONTAL SPACE ABOVE THE BIG CIRCLE (FUEL TANK INLET)? Obviously the answer to my previous question is the gas tank. ------------------ |

What if the rubber grommet is worn on the gas filling pipe, where would the gas leak if it went down there?

I worked all weekend to solve the problem. Thanks for your reply.
Tore the trunk carpet off and found that the gas was leaking from the gas filling cap and the black rubber grommet lost its elasticity (the black piece of rubber around the hole when you pump the gas). So after a fill up on a hot day, gas bubbled over through the cap and leaked down the right wheel well in the trunk soaking the trunk carpet. After scrubbing it with soap and water and airing it out, it has improved, but I'll have to get that new piece of rubber tomorrow and wait awaile before it gets back to normal. thanks matt |
