Does anyone know if there is an advantage to using SWEPCO 203 for limited slip differntials, versus using #201?
The 203 is losted as for heavy use, such as limited slip, whereas the 201 is listed for just plain differntials. Wouldn't a limited slip constitute heavy use? Thanks for your help........Andras |

Andras, the lube for limited slip rear ends is a different formulation than regular hypoid (gear) oil. There are differential clutchs in the limited slip rear end that require a formulation closer to ATF. Stick with factory recommendations to avoid ruining the clutches in the rear end. Heavy duty does not necessarily mean OK for limited slip..

The difference in in the thermal breakdown, that is the temperature when the lubricant will not lubricate any more. The limited slip will generate much more heat than a open diff when pushed and needs a limited slip fluid. Mercedes offers a special diff fluid for limiteds.
