Cruise Control

Howdy guys, On my 82 300D, I would set the CC and it would last a mile or so and shut off...I have lubed all the ball ends and I cant see anything wrong , nice and smooth..I changed the CC unit under the hood with another unit from my parts car...same thing...is there another area I need to address or just not assume I have a good CC unit..thanks for your help

mine did the same, I even changed the controler under the dash, it would never keep a constant speed, I was told that diesels seem to have this problem because of the lag and slow throttle response. I gave up trying to use it. even the 86 300e I just got does the same, but it will work on flat ground but either surges or cuts out on up or downhills

Check the cruse control switch on the steering column. They get noisey and dont make good contact after a while.
