brake pad/rotor manufacturers
What's the difference? I am looking to replace the rear brake pads and rotors on my 1994 E420. I looked here at FastLane and found this for rotors:
N1000-34085, Brake Disc, Balo, $56.14 N1000-34085, Brake Disc, Zimmermann, $53.46 and this for pads: N1010-25161, Brake Pad Set, , $28.83 N1010-62367, Brake Pad Set Metal Master, PBR, $28.21 N1010-62366, Brake Pad Set Deluxe, PBR, $21.79 N1010-25161, Brake Pad Set, Pagid, $30.00 N1010-25161, Brake Pad Set, Textar, $28.26 Soooooo, what's better? Better is classified by: 1. Best braking quality 2. Low noise problems (squeak, rattle, etc.) 3. Long lasting Thanks!

Both Balo & Zimmerman are quality "GERMAN" rotors. not the Quality of OE but still good! OE rotors from a dealer should be $57.50, that is what I would use!!
That car uses JURID pads from the factory & that is the best pad for the car. Next best would be Textar.

Thanks Doc! I will price from a Dealer as well and ask who makes their products.
No to insult MB Doc's knowledge and experience, but does anyone have a different opinion? It's always good to get a debate going, but if there's one clear top quality product then that might not happen! Thanks,

I hate brake dust
and those factory style pads are really messy. For me the PBR Deluxe pads are the ones to go with - great feel and wear, and the dust only needs to be washed off once a week instead of daily

I had OE Rotors/Jurid pads all round.
Brake quality was good and no squeak (even without brake paste behind the pads).Wear rate seems ok. Recently renewed the rears to Brembo Rotors/Texstar pads.Good brake quality and no squeak.Too early to say if wear rate is ok. Cheers. |

Thanks for the opinions! I'll let everyone know what I use, it probably won't be until August due to work/personal schedules.

on my W126, the OE pads are Textar in the back, Pagid up front. I put Textar on all fours. I also have ATE front rotors, I believe Balo is OEM.

Balo makes a very high quality rotor. They also don't farm out the casting of the rotor. It is done in-house in their foundry.
For the heavier BMWs this brand stood out as having an excellent reputation for not warping...and it was one of the least expensive.
