Hi all,
I have just had my car looked at by a mechanic and it requires a head gasket he said it would cost about 350 pounds to do he will also replace the front cover seal is this a good price, also should the head be skimmed or just a gasket change, is there any other work that should be carried out while the head is off ie valve seals etc.thanks in advance Bobby 1993 320CE 24V |

This is a very common problem on M104 engines, I doubt if the head needs resurfacing. Gasket failure is the problem.

Since the tappett pushes directly on top of the valve, I have never seen the guides or the seals worn unless the engine had been severly overheated in its life.
