Just picked up an '84 380SL. Have discoverd that the mechanical advance in the distributor is not working smoothly and returning to original position as it should. Can someone advise the procedure for getting to the mechanical advance on this distributor? All my experience with this type of problem has been on American & British cars, and never with Bosch Electronics- Thanks!

You should be able to take off the rotor button by pulling. Then the advance is under the plastic cover...Just drop some tranny fluid on it. Also drop some in the top of the shaft. There is a sponge in the top that should be lubed with every service. (always overlooked by non trained techs)
