02 Sensor Question
I just replaced my 02 sensor with the Bosch 13953 that was meant for the Mustang 5.0 I just cut off the Mustang connectors and soldered the three wires (2 white and one black) to the original Mercedes wires in the 02 sensor (also 2 white and one black wire). I did all the soldering where the wires are in the passenger side.
Does it matter which white wire I connect (by soldering) to the original white wire? Or are the white wires interchangeable? Of course the black wire should go to the black wire. The reason I ask this is my gas consumption hasn't changed. I'm still consuming too much gas. If you have time, pls. see my original post High Gas Consumption by ako. Thanks again...RV ----------------------------- 1992 300 TE (103 engine) 116K miles |

Without reading your other thread I am wondering why you are messing with the o2 sensor. If sensor is truely acting up and sending too much gas through the system then you might look for a crack in the exaust manifold... or other defects that would allow air to get to the sensor.

The black wire is normally the signal wire. while the two white ones are heater ground & power. There is no polarity to the whites, so it doesn't matter how you connect them. As to why your fuel consumption is still high, some questions come to mind, such as, is there a check engine light, have you done a tune-up lately, etc.

Manny,
Thanks for clarifying the white wires. There is no Check Engine Light. And no cracks in exhaust manifold. I only replaced the 02 sensor since it's about due already and that was the suggestion of people in this forum from my original post. I MIGHT have a vacuum leak though but don't have the equipment to trace it. RV |

Vacuum leaks can be a real ***** to pinpoint sometimes. I quite often end up shooting WD 40 ( carefully ) around any suspicious areas.
What are the chances you can go to an emissions testing station & get a verdict ( i.e. readings & ideas ) as if you were doing a pre-test ? Probably wouldn't cost more than 20 bucks ?

What does the WD-40 do to affect a vacume leak?

Try it sometime. Just create a small leak & then give it a shot.

WD used to be combustible, no longer is..
The propellant was propane, but has not been used in 4 years... We use to use it to start Model engines in the winter until they changed to non flamable pro.... |

Right you are Arthur !
I just tried it with a new can of WD 40. Boy, it's either been sometime since I used it for that purpose or, I had a reallllly old can sitting around in the garage. I could suggest ether but, I don't want to buy the guy a new car or house.

Only cuz I use a leather glove.
The big engines can be popped backwards, so that makes it safer, but the small ones will nail you Most guys use an electric starter on the small ones , but the large have too much compression for elecrtic start.. |

Would starting fluid have the effect as WD-40 regarding vacume leaks?
