My '84 500SEL oil pressure gauge sits at about 2.5 to 2.75 bar when I'm at an idle. It pegs while cruising. The engine is idling at about 800rpm. On my '85 300D the oil pressure gauge is sitting between 1 and 2 bar (as it sez in owners manual) while idling. The 500SEL seems to run fine with no problems.
Is this higher than normal oil pressure while idling something that I need to be concerned with? Thanks fellas, Frank ------------------ FrankieZ 84 500SEL EURO 87K 85 300DT 267K (not my miles tho) |

fz500sel,
High oil pressure at idle is what you would typically like to see, especially at normal operating temperature. This indicates minimal bearing clearance (wear). High oil pressure at idle is a good thing. Good luck, ------------------ Larry Bible '84 Euro 240D, 516K miles '88 300E 5 Speed '81 300D Daughter's Car Over 800,000 miles in Mercedes automobiles |

Thanks, Larry.
It's nice to hear that it is a good thing. Why would the operators manual say that at idle it is typical for the oil pressure gauge to drop down to as low as .3 bar at idle? I figured it's better to have more than enough pressure than to have too little. ------------------ FrankieZ 84 500SEL EURO 87K 85 300DT 267K (not my miles tho) |
