BR-3 (OBDII) Interface

Can I use the OBDII for my 1995 C220? I am just about to buy one for myself but I want to know whether it will be beneficial to me since it does not include my 1995 in it's description details. I will purchase one than to take my car for a diagnostics test for $76 at the dealer or any other shop. Please help.

Don't expect to get the same diagnostics from an OBDII scanner vs. the factory scanner.

OBD II might be worth it if the price is reasonable. I use an OBDII scanner on my 94 C280 and so far its been right on the money- helping me to quickly diagnose and solve problems-(only a few to report).

Although Neil makes a valid point the OBDII scanner will not be as good as a MB factory scanner or MB software. In the end however, the OBDII is better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Hmmmm, my understanding is that OBDII wasn't available until 1996... that's when US Federal law required it. I've heard of some late manufacture 1995's having it.. but nothing before then.
Any tech's want to weigh in?

Ken,

I'm not sure where your info is coming from.
OBDII must have been implemented somewhere pre 95' if it works on a 94'.

All cars sold in the uS by 1996 had to be fully OBDII compliant. Lots of cars got there ahead of time. The 202 chassis came out in the interval when the systems were being designed and it would have been real stupid to built a new car and then have to change it engine management system immediately.

As such the 202 got OBDII before all the other chassis. Since the E class changed in 96 nothing was done in 94 or 95.
