SQUEEK/CREAK on driver front of my 190
(Yes, I searched and read the threads first)
1991 190E 2.6 ~ 150k miles This past winter, the front left (near the wheel) really started creaking (like the proverbial hinge on the coffin -- that is exactly what it sounds like). I don't know if it does it at higher speeds, but I notice it especially at very low speeds as I turn the steering wheel or go over a small bump. From what I have read, it appears to either be the ball joints, tie rods, or one of the bushings (can't recall the part right now). I am not going to tackle this myself. What do you suspect it is and what would be an approximate repair cost? Finally, if the ball joints -- How does one determine if the entire control arm should be replaced or just the ball joints? Thanks, |
That squeaking/creaking noise is the Ball Joints. I am 99.99% sure of this. The same thing went wrong in my previous 300E.
Ball joints $30-$40 +labor(not too intense). |
Thanks. How about the ball joints vs. replacing the entire control arm?
I appreciate the reply |
Just do the ball joints, If you have the money to replace the entire control arm, do it. But before you replace it, just check and see if the bushing in the control arm is worn, if so, THEN replace it.
You might need to get your car aligned after replacing front end suspension parts. |
