Serpentine belt tensioner
 

How do you adjust the belt tensioner on an 86 300e gas motor?
I need to pull the alternator and am having a fit trying to find the tensioner.
Any special tools? Alt bearing making noise.

A noise from the vicinity of the alternator that is a rattling - similar to some bearing failures - is often simply the belt 'damper'. A miniature shock absorber, the rubber in the bushes eventually deteriorates, and it should be replaced.
