Question Electric Engine Cooling Fans

A simple question:
The electric engine cooling fans on my E420 that kick in around 95 degrees C - are these fans supposed to run even after I shut the car down or are they tied to the ignition, i.e., w/o the ignition switch on, they will not run?
I know many brands' fans continue running until the engine is cool - does this apply to Benz? Mine shut down as soon as I turn the car off. If they are supposed continue running, what is my likely problem.
Cheers, Denny Argall

As far as I know, this is normal. My 1990 300e preforms the same way. I have, however, put thought in to some way to allow the fans to continue to run after the key is removed, after all it can get pretty hot here in NC.
