260E Topsider Oil Change?

If I use a Topsider to change the oil in my "new" 260E, should I remove the screw-on filter first, or should I leave it on for a while at the start? I am trying to prevent excess oil mess.

Thanks

Leave it in place until you've finished removing all the oil from the pan. When you do remove the filter you'll find a small pool of oil sitting in the housing, use the topsider to suck the oil from here too.

Topsiders work like a dream in these cars.;)

Prior to starting the suction, puncture the top of the filter with a center punch or big nail. It will take five to ten minutes to drain, and by the time you remove it, little if any oil should spill out on the filter pad.

I always loosen the filter about a quarter turn before I puncture it to be sure it will come off.
