89 420SEL How to remove Blower Motor?

OK, I removed the three screws holding the "knee panel" and the lower dash cover on the passenger side does not come off. How do I take this thing off so I can access the blower motor. I can;t remove the glove box because there is none on the 89's. I checked the repair manual and it shows the removal procedure for the earlier 126's, and not the later 126's

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You're almost there. There's a screw behind the kick panel. To remove the kick panel, pull the edge by the door jamb towards the center of the car. Therer's also a plastic screw where the lowe panel meets the carpeted side of the center console. Give that pastic screw a quarter turn. That should do it.

I guess your 89 has a passenger side airbag. I've only worked on my 126s with don't have passenger side airbags (87 and 91) so I can't help you there. If you're just replacing the blower motor, removing the lower panel will give you all the access you need.

Yes it does have the airbag, and I think THATS what makes it difficult. But let me give it a shot the way you explain. If I dont get it I shall post a picture and we can go from there. Thanks

The only thing having the glove box or air bag out will help is fitting the hose to side window defrost register to the AC plenum on the lower cover panel. If the register pops out when you fit the lower panel, pound it back into place. That does it for me.

Just a note of caution after removing the large diameter air distribution duct that distributes tempered air to the passenger side and door. The aspirator motor for the in-cabin temperature sensor lurks to the right side in that same area, encased in a sponge rubber case. When you reassemble after completing your repair of the blower motor, satisfy yourself that the tube connecting the aspirator motor to the in-cabin temperature sensor remains firmly attached.
