Unhappy Unlocking driverside with key doesn't unlock

Hello,

How do I access the locking system for the driver side lock. When I use the key to manually unlock the driver side door, it doesn't unlock or move at all. The key turns in the lock but the door doesn't unlock.. works fine for the passenger side though.

How do I fix this and what will I need.

Also, what will I need to open up to get access to the area which needs work done.

Thanks

what i did on my 84 300sd is i swapped the pass. and driver side since when u unlock the driver side all the locks unlock. you basically take out the hadel on one side and swap it with the other. thsi was on a w126 so i don't know if it applies to all models.

95 S420 front door panel removal

Good luck. Your fingers are your eyes when you work on the door lock mechanism.

It doesn't sound quite the same. Mine worked with the key, but not with the remote or central locking pump. I think there's a broken rod or clip in your case, just not the same one. Does the lock button move in your car?

Not automatically, I have to move it manually (for the driver side)...

Also the keyless entry (through the key button) doesn't work.. The lights turn red for green and red for lock but it doesn't do anything

I just checked the fuses by moving them around to see which ones light up etc. and the fuses are ok.. Do you think it could be anything to do w/ fuses in the hood instead of trunk?

Basically the unlocking for the driver side must be done after I open up the passenger side and manually pull up the driver side unlocker. Also, the buttons inside the car don't unlock the car either nor does the buttons on the key.. The lights for the buttons on the key work (green/red) for the driver side, pass. side, and trunk but the car doesn't unlock

Any suggestions?

Wanna try this again? Maybe with a picture. I just don't get what you're saying.

As for the door, the only thing I can suggest is to take the inner panel off and see if anything is obviously broken.

I know the part I mentioned above is broken for sure, I can see that it is broken off

I'll try describing it later this morning. I have to see where it is located and it will be easy to describe

Oh, the door check aka check strap. It's about $26 from FastLane.

I've been hanging around here too long if that description made sense to me

Tie rod? If you mean for the door lock problem, you'll have to look into it first. It could be a broken rod or a broken clip or the bell crank slipped out of it's axle... any number of things requiring somne parts or no parts to fix.

The check strap provides the detents for the door so it doesn't swing all the way open then come back and cut off your leg. There's a picture in FastLane though most of what you'll see is hidden in the door.

I know nothing of fenders and mirrors or much else about the W140 since I'm only a month into figuring out mine. I can help you with the front headrests, driver's door lock rods, front seat height mechanism and AC air filters but that's about it. I've yet to change the oil in this thing. The coolant is green so that's the next job.

No way I'm going to Orlando in July. Maybe in January but that's when San Jose is at the right temperature for me.

Buy a Diesel and I'll fly out to help you sort it out

Locking

Basicly the system works like this, when you unlock there is a microswitch that tells the pump to unlock all the doors etc. when you go the other way the pump runs and locks. The remote system provides the same info to the pumpbut also arms the system, so does the lock button inside the car but does not arm or dis arm. The question "is" is it only this door, what happens when you unlock from the other door or trunk, or from the inside. That will narrow it down, some older mercedes had a switch in the vacum diaphram, you turned the key it pulled up on the diaphram and started the pump. the 140 had microswitches in the locks. I would either fault the pump or the switch in the door
